One of two wines for a very special winemkaers project in 2017 when we identified two old vine vineyards of Grenache looked that they would produce exceptional fruit purity, with great colour and intensity of flavour and this is where the experiment in single site differences began with harvest on 12th April. Crushed into concrete open top fermeters, the skins where held under the fermenting juice with Heading Down boards to minimise harsh tannin extraction. After an 7 day fermentation the wines were pressed out via an air bag press to a holding tank. After one day of settling both parcels were transferred to 500L French Oak Puncheons (10% new) for malolactic fermentation. For the following 6 months the wines were matured in these vessels with 2 ‘rack and returns’ performed to help evaluate and clarify the wines. Careful barrel selection followed with only 2 barrels of each parcel selected to be bottled in the side by side botting. The wines were unfiltered, unfined and are 100% Barossa Valley Grenache
A unique style of sparkling red wine made from the classic Petit Verdot grape variety. This brilliant deep ruby red wine has aromas of blackberry, plums and typical Petit Verdot florals. These flow onto the palate and combine with a delightful creaminess, a result of the wine being matured in oak barrels for 14 months and on lees for a further 6 months in bottle. There is a wonderful fine mousse and a clean lingering finish that delights the senses.
The 2012 Grand Pappys Shiraz shows its “Barossa Pedigree” with the fruit hand selected from our very best vineyards. It has a lifted nose of sweet mulberry fruit and cedary oak. The palate is medium bodied with raspberry fruit, oatmeal characters and sweet spice. The palate is very even and rounded with great texture, mouthfeel and length.
Shiraz is perfectly suited to the warm Barossa Valley climate. The bouquet on our Pappy’s Paddock Shiraz is aromatic and lifted, with plum and dark cherry fruit with integrated oak. The palate has plush berry fruits, olives and layers of chocolate and sweet spice. A velvety tannin structure will allow the wine to age gracefully in bottle for ten or more years.
This wine was sourced from Premium Barossa Valley Vineyards that produce consistently high quality fruit. Fermented on skins for 10 days in potter fermenters, receiving twice daily pump overs. The wine was then pressed off and transferred direct to French oak barrels (50% new) where it matured for 2 years. Careful barrel selection then took place with only the most pristine barrels making the cut into FIRST PICK. A wine that will cellar for 10+ years.
Cabernet Sauvignon is suited to the Barossa Valley and is highlighted in this wines intense blackcurrant, cherry and mint in the aroma. Rich and full on the palate with flavours of currants, sweet spice and a firm palate coating tannin structure providing a long finish. The immense depth and power of this wine will ensure long term aging ability.
Petit Verdot is renowned for producing wines of great flavour, structure and colour and the Home Block Petit Verdot has all these distinctive characters. The aroma displays lifted floral, dark cherry and mint notes. The palate is full bodied with a dense core of savory black fruits, kitchen spices and cassis. The wine finishes with great vibrant fruit supported by fine grain French oak tannin.
